Birding Highlights 2003
April 2003
Crossbill, Breckland, Suffolk/Norfolk
A birding highlight of any visit to the Breckland pine forests and heaths has to be the sight of a
party of Crossbills, with a mixture of bright red males and green/yellow females, using their
specialised hooked and crossed bills to extract seeds from the pine cones, or coming down to
pools and drinking troughs to take a drink after this thirsty work.
