Birding Highlights 2003
July 2003
Green Woodpeckers, Shingle Street, Suffolk

Woody#02
The Green Woodpecker is normally very wary and will not allow a close approach, but in this case,
the adult was too busy feeding one of its young, which was giving its parent a hard time with its
insatiable appetite.
Woody#03
At one stage, the adult clambered up a telephone pole, hoping for five minutes peace. But that
didn't work either!

Swifts, Hadleigh, Suffolk
The sight and sound of summer coming to an end again.
Swifts#01
A bit of "digital self-indulgence" here. With conventional slide or print film, photographing flying
Swifts can be an expensive pastime in terms of the high failure rate and number of blurred/birdless
results. With a digital system, taking the actual shots doesn't cost a penny in consumables. You can
delete the dud images and forget all about them (after learning from your mistakes!), and you don't
have to sit and look at a waste bin  full to the brim with rejects!
